Being a part of the National Oil Museum, I have visited several Oil Wells and Refineries located at North-East India. I have seen the first Oil Well at Dibrugarh. The Oil exploration was started around 1826, British India in Assam region. Oil was discovered at Naharpung on 1867. This is regarded the first oil well in British India. In this well British people did not find any hydrocarbon. So this product can not be used for daily life. Day after day, people was passionately searched for hydrocarbon based oil. Finally, Oct. 1889, an Oil well was discovered at Digboi, the product was hydrocarbon based oil. This is the renowned OIL WELL NO.1, the first oil well in India. Commercial production of Oil was started around Nov. 1890. The production was ceased in 1927. This Well no. 1 is now under Oil India Limited associated with Digboi Centenary Museum.

I have visited several Oil installation sites in Dibrugarh and Digboi. Digboi view point is installed above the Digboi Oil Field, from where one can see how extent the field is.
On the other hand, I have visited Indian Oil Refinery, Digboi and Indian Oil Refinery, Guwahati. In this downstream section, crude oil is being distilled and thousands of components are separated at different heights and at different temperature. The Indian Oil Refinery, Digboi produces 0.65 MMT of oil per annum whereas Indian Oil Refinery, Guwahati produces 1.0 MMT oil per annum.
It was a precious and tremendous experience for me. Now I could understand what exactly a man have to do to extract oil. From today I will try to save every drop of oil and also request you to do the same.
